Lack of anonymity drives integrity. Think: drivers’ behavior. Would people still blow through stop signs or cut other drivers off if their name was posted on top of their car? Most, likely not.

Lack of anonymity can also drive engagement. Help your visitors, prospects, or even current members, clients or customers identify themselves to you. Create opportunities to allow them announce themselves.

People with “names” have more to offer you, and you can offer more to “named” people:

1. Engage commenters on your blog by directly addressing them in the comments.
2. Utilize the engagement tactics of gaming to allow users/visitors to differentiate themselves somehow. E.g., badges, privileges, bonus access.
3. Ask for help, opinions, information from your users — let them enjoy sharing their expertise or knowledge.

How do you encourage your users or prospects to “announce themselves?”
